FAQs

My child is new to the swim team. Should I sign them up for the Destroyers or the Junior Destroyers?

Team groupings are based upon skill, not age. If your child can swim 25 meters (the length of the Burke Station Swim Club pool) unassisted, sign up for the Destroyers. If not, but your child is able to jump in on his/her own and swim the width of the diving well, you can sign him/her up for the 9&U "Middies Group." We will perform an initial assessment to see if your child can proceed with that group or should start with the Juniors.

If your child is relatively new to swimming and is not ready to dive in and swim the width of the diving well, start with the Junior Destroyers. Each year, we have a handful of Juniors who "graduate" to the big team as they increase their skills and endurance, so your little one might just find themselves making the jump! If you are still uncertain, contact the team reps and we can help guide you on your decision.
