Summer 2026 Coaching Staff
We are pleased to announce the return of Kelly Hanik as the Head Coach of the Burke Station Destroyers.
Hello Burke Station Swim Team! My name is Kelly Hanik (aka Coach Kelly) and I am thrilled to be returning for my 5th year and to lead this awesome coaching staff!
In real life, I am an occupational therapist, as well as part of the Potomac Valley/USA Swimming community, serving as an assistant coach for the Fairfax Foxes Swim Team.
Away from the pool, you can most likely find me with my family at a ball field. We are a big baseball family and a house divided :)
Swimming has always been a huge part of my life. My competitive swimming career began on a summer swim team at the age of 6 and finished at Division I Saint Francis University in Loretto, PA. I have over 20 years of coaching experience under my cap and goggles and I love sharing my excitement and with all the kids I have the privilege to coach.

Hello again, Destroyers!
My name is Charlie St. Louis, and I’m so pumped to be back at Burke Station as an assistant coach this summer! I have a deep-rooted NVSL background, with ten years of swimming and four years of coaching experience. During high school, I competed year-round with Machine Aquatics’ National Team and swam varsity for Lake Braddock all four years.
I now swim at the NCAA Division I level for American University, where I’m entering my Junior year pursuing a degree in Business Administration.
My favorite color is blue, and my go-to cologne? Chlorine. Swimming has always been my passion, and I can’t wait to bring that energy to the team this summer. Let’s make it a season to remember! Go BKS!
Hello BKS swimmers! I am Claire Penwell, and I will be coaching for the Junior Destroyers and Middies groups this season. I have been swimming with the Burke Station Destroyers since 2022 and have helped with Junior Destroyers since 2023. This past year I’ve enjoyed working with the younger groups as part of the BKS winter swim program.
I look forward to helping our younger swimmers improve their confidence in the water and encouraging them as they make progress toward their swim goals. I’m very excited for this season and want to help everyone learn and have fun together as a team!
Hello Burke Station! I'm Thomas O'Kane and I am one of the Junior Destroyers and Middies coaches for the 2026 season! This will be my 13th year with the Burke Station Destroyers and previously I have spent the last 6 seasons working with the Junior Destroyers. Outside of BKS, I participate in the Marching Band and Men's Varsity Rowing team at Lake Braddock.
I am super pumped for this upcoming swim season and to make sure everyone improves all while having a ton of fun! Let's go BKS!
