Meet Week 4 and Much, Much More!
Hello everyone! We’ve got a lot of recapping to do, as well as an INCREDIBLY busy week, so we’re going to load you up with info. We’ll follow up with shorter, more focused emails so that things don’t get lost..
Country Club Hills A Meet Recap
Well...our meet on Saturday was a hot one, and we kinda got toasted(!). Our kids swam their hearts out, but CCH simply had too much depth for us and outswam us by a score of 246-174. This was the first meet in a long time that we lost by a pretty big margin, but our kids never stopped cheering, never stopped supporting their teammates, and never stopped giving their all in the pool. We also had a bunch of great time drops across our age groups, which is something we love to see each week! There’s not much more we could have asked of them, so we are all incredibly proud of the effort they put in. They also turned out on the deck for their post-meet dancing, so not even a loss and the heat could put a damper on their spirits!
Congratulations are in order for Emmett Latimore, who swam 8&Under Backstroke in his first ever A Meet! We also want to give a huge shoutout to George Verigan, our 10-year-old boy who swam in the 15-18 Boys 50 Backstroke event and dropped 13 seconds from his previous best time!
Thank you to everyone who came out to volunteer and cheer on the kids. It’s tough to get up for it on such a scorching day, but we appreciate each and every one of you who help us make this such a great time each time we’re together for a meet!
Final meet results are attached to this email.
Destroyers of the Week
Congratulations to last week’s Destroyers of the Week, Liz Burkett and Johnny Hackett! Not only did both Johnny and Liz put in great work during practice last week, but they also put in amazing efforts in the water during our meet with SOC. All of their hard work during the week paid off, and they were both deserved winners of last week's award!
Lake Braddock B Meet Recap
We had another quick turnaround for a B Meet at Lake Braddock last night. It’s always a blast to swim so close to home with swimmers we know so well, especially because they love to host a dance party on the deck during the IM break! We again had lots of time drops and first swims for our Middies Maeve Campbell and Leila Mowder. We’re thrilled whenever any of our Middies make the leap to swimming in meets, and both Leila and Maeve did an awesome job last night!
Division 13 Relay Carnival: Wednesday, July 8
Tomorrow is the Division 13 Relay Carnival at Country Club Hills. The families of swimmers taking part have been informed, but we wanted to mention it to everyone just in case you’d like to attend. Relay Carnival is pretty wild - it’s an NVSL meet that consists of only relays (no individual events) in which points are scored and a winner is announced. This year’s meet should be a close one, so if you can come out to cheer on our BKS swimmers, we’d love to see you there!
Friday Breakfast / Decorating Pep Rally
There are still a few slots open for this Friday’s breakfast. Hit up the BKS Breakfast SignUp Genius if you’re interested in pitching in!
We’ll be having our Car and Kickboard Decorating pep rally this Friday! Join us at BSSC for decorating cars in preparation for our trip to Poplar Tree, as well as to jazz up the kids’ kickboards! We’ll provide the writing implements necessary and appropriate for both.
A Meet at Poplar Tree: Saturday, July 11
Our fourth A Meet of the season will be at Poplar Tree (13516 Point Pleasant Drive, Chantilly, VA 20151). As usual, the meet will start at 9:00 am, with our warmups starting at 8:20 am.
We’re still missing quite a few declarations for this meet. Please declare your swimmers’ availability by tomorrow (Wednesday) morning at 8:00 so the coaches can make the lineup tomorrow afternoon.
Our post-meet lunch will be at Mission BBQ (13067-J Route 50, Fairfax, VA 22033). As with previous team lunches, we’d like to give Mission BBQ a decent count of attendees, so please let us know if your family will attend via the July 11 team lunch Jotform by Friday afternoon so we can help Mission BBQ be prepared for us to descend upon them after the meet!
