SOC A Meet Debrief, Holmes Run B Meet, Friday Fun, and More!
Happy Sunday evening, BKS! We’re sorry that this email took so long to get out, but we’ve all had crazy schedules this weekend and this just kind of slipped a little later than we wanted.
Somerset-Olde Creek A Meet Recap
We did it! We finally won a close meet!!!
What an amazing meet yesterday at Somerset-Olde Creek! We had *another* meet come down to the last couple relays, but this time we came out on top with a 214-205 win! We had a huge number of time drops this week, which The meet had everything, from amazing individual races from our youngest to oldest swimmers to comebacks in the relays that put us over the top. The kids were fast, loud, and the consummate ladies and gentlemen through it all…and that’s just how we like it!
Just as we did last week, we had some more first-time A Meet and first-time point earners this week. Our first-time A Meet swimmers included Emma Kim, birthday boy Walker Whitney, Eliam Ruano, and Liz Burkett. In fact, Saturday was Emma’s first meet ever, and it says a lot about her to be willing to swim in an A Meet as her first meet as an 8&Under! Walker and Liz earned their first points in this meet, as well, playing a huge part in our win with it being such a close meet. Congrats to all four of these swimmers for putting in such a great effort this week!
Final meet results are attached to this email.
Destroyers of the Week
Congratulations are in order for Oli Casidy and Walker Whitney for winning Destroyers of the Week! The coaches were so excited to be able to give these awards to both Oli and Walker given the incredibly hard work they’ve been putting in over the last few weeks. Well done, Oli and Walker!
B Meet - Monday, June 29 - Holmes Run (Home)
We are swimming at home with Holmes Run tomorrow night at 6:00 pm. We hope to see a big turnout with lots of time drops this week given the weather cancellation last Monday!
Our warmups will begin at 5:00 pm. Please arrive by 4:50 pm so that your swimmers are ready to go.
Tomorrow’s meet theme is “Who’s That?” Get decked out as your favorite cartoon character, celebrity, or historical figure, and swim like a legend while dressed like an icon!
Event Sign-up: Please declare swimmers by tomorrow, Monday, July 7, at 8:00 am. Swimmers can sign up for two events AND the IM. As a reminder, swimmers cannot swim in an event in which they placed first, second, or third in at yesterday’s A Meet (see attached meet results if you are unsure of your places). Instructions on How to Sign-Up.
We will swim IM in the middle of the meet.
With IM Carnival coming up in a week-and-a-half, swimmers have two more opportunities - tomorrow and next Monday - to get legal IM times (or Fly times for 8&Unders) if they want to swim in that meet!
Weather Details: Today’s rain looks to have ushered in almost perfect weather for tomorrow. While we don’t expect there to be any issues tomorrow, we will communicate any possible delays via the SwimTopia app.
Volunteers: We still need a Grill Master for tomorrow. Please sign up on SwimTopia and let us know that you’ve signed up. The Grill Master must be ready to start by 5:00 pm so we have plenty of burgers and dogs ready for when our visitors start to arrive for warmups!
Volunteers, please arrive ON TIME for your shifts. If you are going to be late, please let us know so we can find someone to step in. Many positions (especially at a home meet) are time-sensitive and start before warmups. Please make sure to double check your start time.
On-deck officials should come in white top/blue bottoms. Rain gear may be any color.
Meet Setup/Tear Down: Our 8&Under families will be responsible for meet setup (starting at 4:30 pm). Families of 9-10 swimmers will handle tear down after the meet. Both setup and tear down will happen quickly if we get all families out to help! Going forward, you can find the setup/tear down schedule on the Home Meet Setup/Tear Down page on the website.
A Meet Declaration Reminder
Please be sure to declare your swimmers’ availability for next Saturday’s Home A Meet against Country Club Hills by Wednesday morning at 8:00 am. With it being the Fourth of July, we really need to have all declarations in so that the coaches know who will be available for lineup selection on Wednesday!.
Friday Team Practice and Breakfast / Ice Cream Social
Friday morning’s practice schedule will be changed a bit. Middies will still practice at 7:45 am and have breakfast afterwards. All Destroyers will practice together and have a relay extravaganza from 8:30-9:30 with breakfast afterwards in the parking lot! If you have signed up to provide breakfast for any of the age groups, we'd like you to bring it by 8:30 so that the Middies can have their Friday breakfast and so we can have everything set up for the Destroyer breakfast. This will be a super fun practice, so we hope everyone can make it!
We’ll send out reminders about the practice changes later this week.
Friday evening (from 6:00-7:00 pm) is our Ice Cream Social, followed by probably the most anticipated event of the year - the annual making of coaches into human sundaes! For our new families, this is one event your kids won’t want to miss!
We’ll see you all on the deck tomorrow!
- Deirdre, Mike, and Matt
