Lincolnia Park Meet Debrief, Camelot B Meet Details, and More

Happy Sunday, Burke Station families…especially to our BKS dads!

Lincolnia Park A Meet Recap

Wow…what a meet yesterday! While we may have come out on the wrong side of the 213-206 result, that meet was everything that makes summer swim great! We saw time drops from the first to the last individual heats and we made a great fight of it in the relays. We’re making a habit of having our Division 13 meets come down to those last relays, but we’ll come out on the winning side of a close meet soon enough!

Big congratulations to William Penwell, Chris Garzlaff, William Penwell, and Adriano Saavedra who set a new Burke Station record in the Boys 13-14 100M Medley Relay yesterday! The boys swam their race in 1:01.75, which bested the previous record of 1:02.21 which was set in 2011. Congrats, boys!

More recognition is in order to our first-time A Meet swimmers, all of whom contributed to the team in one fashion or another yesterday! Grace Hughes, Layla Aziz, Elly Hackett, Bryan Lawrence, Jr., Matthew Mowder, Elisse Ruano, Kennedy Chung, Abby Thompson, Solomon Bonner, Clarence Burkett, Emma Burkett, and Milo Bonner did an amazing job and we’re looking forward to more of that over the next few weeks! Layla, Elly, Bryan, Matthew, Clarence, and Emma also scored their first-ever BKS individual points, so additional congratulations to them!

That’s an incredible number of new names on our meet sheet and we couldn’t be prouder of the effort they put in!

We’ve attached the final meet results to this email.

Destroyers of the Week

Speaking of congratulations, we need to again recognize this season’s first Destroyers of the Week: Bryan Lawrence, Jr. and Elisse Ruano! Bryan and Elisse are new to the team (and new to swimming altogether) and have done everything the coaches have asked of them with a positive attitude since Day 1! This is a huge honor, and well-deserved by both Elisse and Bryan!

B Meet Monday, June 22, at Camelot

It’s a quick turnaround to our second B Meet of the season, which is tomorrow at Camelot at 6:00 pm. Our warmups will begin at 5:25. Please arrive by 5:00 so we can get all of our swimmers set up and ready to go for the beginning of our warmups.

Camelot Community Club is located at 3604 Balin Court in Annandale, but the parking lot address is 3705 Camelot Drive, Annandale.

IMPORTANT: There is to be no parking on or pulling into the Balin Court cul-de-sac, so we need to park in the Camelot parking lot (address noted above) or on any street not named “Balin”. The parking lot requires a long and steep walk up to the pool, so please consider street parking if you may have difficulty walking up the stairs, especially in this heat.

You can drop off your swimmers at the entrance to Balin Court, but a marshal will be waving you on as you drop them off.

As always, our away meet theme is Blue and Gold, so come decked out in your finest BKS colors!

Event Sign-up: Please declare swimmers by Monday, June 22 at 8:00 am. Swimmers can sign up for 2 events AND the IM. As a reminder, swimmers cannot swim in an event in which they placed first, second, or third in at the A Meet yesterday (see attached meet results if you are unsure of your places). Instructions on How to Sign-Up.

The IM is scheduled to take place in the middle of the meet.

Weather Details: Right on cue (after there being basically no rain recently), storms are threatening to roll in tomorrow afternoon. Camelot’s weather policy is that all swimmers and attendees must leave the facility until 30 minutes after the last rumble of thunder. We will communicate weather delays and restart times via the SwimTopia app, so please download the app and log in if you haven’t already.

Volunteers: We still need two more timers! Please sign up on the website.

Volunteers, please arrive ON TIME for your shifts. If you are going to be late, please let us know so we can find someone to step in before you arrive.

On-deck officials should come in white top/blue bottoms. Rain Gear may be any color.

Concessions: Camelot’s concessions accepts cash and credit card payment and will be ready for a team of hungry swimmers and their families!

A Meet Declaration Reminder

Please be sure to declare your swimmers’ availability for next Saturday’s A Meet at Somerset-Olde Creek by Wednesday morning at 8:00 am. The coaches will be meeting on Wednesday afternoon and they need declarations so they can set the lineup at that time.

Tie-Die Pep Rally

Our Tie-Die Pep Rally is Friday, July 26 at BSSC. Please bring an item to tie-dye and the team will provide the supplies. We will start at 6:30 pm on the side of the building. We’ll remind everyone again later in the week.

Have a great rest of your Sunday!

- Deirdre, Mike, and Matt
