Fox Mill Woods A Meet (Quick) Debrief, Kid and Community Fun, and the End of the Season!

Good Afternoon, Burke Station…and happy (sad?) last full week of the season!

That was one heck of a meet on Saturday! We just haven’t had the luck this season, what with coming out on the wrong end of meet that came down to the very last relay AGAIN! That means that three of our losses were by six points or less, so just one or two results going in the other direction would have meant a win for BKS in any of those meets!

Despite being on the wrong end of those team results, the fact that we have run all these teams so close and also picked up an impressive win against Holmes Run has proven that our place in Division 13 was well-earned! We couldn’t be more thrilled with what our kids have accomplished during these last 6-7 weeks and we’re incredibly proud to call them all Burke Station Destroyers!

We’ve got very busy final full week of the season, so read up below!

Tuesday Morning - Lollipop Meet Tie-Dying

All 8&Under swimmers, including Destroyers, Transition, and Juniors will be tie-dying shirts on Tuesday after their respective practices. We are providing shirts and tie-dye supplies. Just show up and join in the fun!

Thursday Night - Lollipop Meet & Community Relays

At 5:45 pm, we will get the lane lines in the pool and set up a “small clerk of course” area for our swimmers. The meet will start shortly after 6:00 pm.

All Juniors, Transition, and 8&Under Destroyers will participate. We are incredibly excited for many of our youngest Destroyers to participate in their first meet! We will be making sure everyone gets a chance to swim a length of the pool. (No need to declare a swimmer or choose a stroke). We will follow that up with the inner tube relay. For our smallest Juniors, we will have a duck race in the shallow end instead of the inner tube relay.

If your Junior, Transition, or 8&Under is unable to make it Thursday night, please let Deirdre know ASAP.

Any swimmer aged 9 or older will be able to staff the Lollipop Meet. We will need timers, announcers, and clerks of course, as well as candy staffers. There will be a sign up poster at practice this week. Junior instructors will be helping their swimmers throughout the event.

Following the Lollipop portion of the event, we will have the Community Relays. This is open to anyone in the Burke Station Swim Club community. We will be taking entries at the meet. The first race will be adults only. Following that, we will allow swimmers to create relays. We also encourage parent/child relays too.

The grand finale of the night will be the Belly Flop Contest (thwack!). We will take entrants at that time. No need to sign up in advance.

As noted in a previous email, we will have Rocklands BBQ and Kona Ice food trucks for the event! On-site orders will be available, but Rocklands strongly suggests that attendees pre-order via their website, which will be open until Wednesday, July 16 at 12:00 pm.

Here are the details:

  • Go to https://rocklands-bbq.square.site/
  • Choose "Order Now" in the top right of the page
  • Be sure to choose "Burke Station Swim Team" when the option pops up, as other locations/trucks may be listed and active for the same week.
  • Once the correct location is selected the date will automatically change to the date and start time of your event
  • Guests may schedule what time they would like to pick up by selecting "Change" at the top left of the page under the location and switching from "ASAP" to "Later" and their desired time!
  • Some options may be available for pre-order only. Currently there is a rib platter only available via pre-order
  • Pre-ordering may not be visible on Google Chrome, but other web browsers have no problem! (Reps Note: We've tested this and Chrome seems fine)

Saturday - Divisionals at BSSC!

Following the division seeding meeting on Tuesday evening, we will let swimmers know what they will be swimming. We will also start drafting volunteers to help us staff the BIGGEST meet of the season.

This Saturday’s theme is Beach Day…bring your flip flops, umbrellas in drinks, and cool shades and ride the waves of excitement all morning long!

Of course, that evening is our End-of-Season Party and Slide Show. We can’t wait to see you all there!

We’ll be communicating a bunch more during the week, so be on the lookout!

- Deirdre, Mike, and Matt
