Riverside Gardens A Meet Debrief, Camelot B Meet, IM Carnival, and More!

Hello, Burke Station! It’s been a beautiful long holiday weekend, so we hope you’ve all been able to take advantage of it!

Despite coming out on the short end of the 212-206 scoreline in our meet with Riverside Gardens yesterday, there was a TON to be proud of! Riverside is the strongest team in our division but we gave them their first real scare of the season, taking the meet all the way to the final relay. We matched them swim for swim throughout the meet, and to run them so close is a real testament to the work that the kids and coaches have put in so far this season. Every week that goes by, the more impressed we are with all the kids and the effort they’re putting in!

We had another first-time A Meet swimmer this week, with Naomi Curameng swimming in the 8&U Girls Backstroke and also swimming the backstroke leg of the 9-10 Girls Medley Relay (along with two other 8&Us). Awesome work, Naomi!

We had another record this week, with this one being Joey Hanik lowering the bar again in the 8&U Boys Breaststroke, going 21.53 to beat the record he set last Saturday. Congrats to Joey!

Meet results are attached to this email.

We wanted to give a special mention to our 8&U Boys relay team of Will Hughes, Rylan King, Benson Spainour, and Joey Hanik for making the NVSL All Star Relay meet by virtue of the times they swam in last Wednesday’s Division 13 Relay Carnival. They qualified among the fastest 18 8&U relay teams in all of NVSL in both the Medley and Freestyle relay and will be swimming in the All Star meet this Wednesday at Lincolnia Park. This is a huge accomplishment and continues a relatively recent tradition of BKS relays qualifying for this prestigious meet. Amazing work, boys! Can’t wait to see what times you put up this week!

Believe it or not, we’re in the final week of dual meets, but things are even busier than ever, so be sure to read through everything below.

Monday, July 7: B Meet - Camelot (Home)

We are swimming at home with Camelot tomorrow night at 6:00 pm. This is our final B Meet of the season, and we hope to have a great turnout!

Our warmups will begin at 5:00. Please arrive by 4:50 so that your swimmers are ready to go.

The meet theme is 80s Night/Neon. Pull on your legwarmers, crinkle your hair, slide into your brightest neon colors, and join us at BSSC for a total rad night!!

Event Sign-up: Please declare swimmers by tomorrow, Monday, July 7, at 8:00 am. Swimmers can sign up for two events AND the IM. As a reminder, swimmers cannot swim in an event in which they placed first, second, or third in at the A Meet yesterday (see attached meet results if you are unsure of your places). Instructions on How to Sign-Up.

We will swim IM in the middle of the meet.

We will also be holding a deep-end dash for some Juniors and Transition swimmers. More info to follow for those families whose swimmers we’d like to give it a shot!

Weather Details: There is a slight chance of storms tomorrow afternoon, but hopefully any storms slide by or happen before or after the meet. As always, we will communicate weather delays via the SwimTopia app. Fingers crossed it doesn’t come to that!

Volunteers: We still need one more Marshal. Please sign up on SwimTopia.

Volunteers please arrive ON TIME for your shifts. If you are going to be late, please let us know so we can find someone to step in. Many positions (especially at a home meet) are time-sensitive and start before warmups. Please make sure to double check your start time.

On-deck officials should come in white top/blue bottoms. Rain gear may be any color.

Meet Setup/Tear Down: Our 8&Under families will be responsible for meet setup (starting at 4:30 pm). Families of 13-14 swimmers will handle tear down after the meet. Both setup and tear down will happen quickly if we get all families out to help!

Tuesday, July 8: Fairfax Foxes Clinic at Burke Station

As the coaches mentioned in their email earlier today, Fairfax Foxes will be holding a clinic at our pool for the 8:30-9:30 and 9:30-10:30 practices on Tuesday morning.

Please have a look at the coaches’ email and let us know if you have any questions about the schedule or if/when your swimmer should be at the pool for their practice/clinic.

Juniors families…your little ones will practice at the normal time.

Thursday, July 10: IM Carnival at Burke Station

IM Carnival is an incredibly fun and incredibly fast meet that we host each year. This is not an NVSL-sanctioned meet, but it gives the kids another opportunity to swim the IM during the season and before Divisionals.

Please declare your swimmers for this meet by 8:00 am on Tuesday morning so we can get all the entries submitted. All entrants to this meet must have a legal IM time for the 2025 season after this Monday's B Meet! (8&Unders swimming Butterfly must have a legal 25M Butterfly time). If you don’t know whether your swimmer has a legal time, just check SwimTopia or ask one of the Reps during practice.

The weather is looking iffy later in the week, but with how quick this meet is we hope that we can fit it in during any lull in storminess!

Pizza Party and Car Decorating Pep Rally – Friday, July 11 at BSSC

Come join us for a pizza party at the pool this Friday evening starting at 6:00 pm - $5 per person, all you can eat Ledo pizza and drinks! If you haven’t already, you can purchase your pizza on the website here.

During the pizza party, we will be decorating cars with car paint, etc. to show off our BKS pride during the drive to Fox Mill Woods on Saturday!

A Meet Declaration Reminder

Please declare your swimmers’ availability for next Saturday’s final A Meet of the season <sad face> at Fox Mill Woods by Tuesday morning at 8:00 am. With everything going on this week, the coaches will be meeting after practice on Tuesday and they need declarations so they can set the lineup then.

Enjoy the remainder of your holiday weekend - see you at the pool tomorrow!
