2025-2026 Burke Station Winter Swim (goodness gracious...)
Hello again, Burke Station families. Sorry for spamming you all, but there’s a ton going on right now!
OK…we’ve only just finished our second A Meet, but it’s already time to start planning for the Burke Station NVSL “offseason” program! Fairfax County Park Authority has reached out about interest in lanes for NVSL winter swim programs, so that means we need to figure out how many lanes we’ll need. Thus…this email!
We are excited to continue our weekly swim sessions at either Audrey Moore or South Run Rec Centers starting in September and running through May. Our regular practices, even for just an hour per week, has been incredibly beneficial for all of our kids, but especially our non-club and younger swimmers. This has undoubtedly contributed to our recent summer success, but even more importantly it allows the kids to stay connected with their friends in the pool during the offseason!
We've created a 2025-2026 Winter Swim Family Feedback form to track interest, as well as the preferred days and times for swimming this winter, across the team. If you're interested, please fill this out as soon as possible. Filling out the form is not a commitment, but we would hope that most everyone indicating interest would sign up.
Please provide your feedback by Tuesday, July 1, so we can submit our request by the July 3 deadline set by Fairfax County for lane preferences. We aren't guaranteed to get our preferred days and times, but we'll do our best to get them.
Our intent is to keep the cost the same as the last two years - $300 for September through May - but the only way we can guarantee that is to have a good estimate of swimmers so we can request the appropriate number of lanes.
Our program is open to all Transition and Destroyers swimmers. We generally have more kids in each lane in the winter than we do in the summer, so it’s important that the kids are confident in the water and able to swim 25 yards unassisted.
We are giving preference to families swimming this summer season, but if you know of any "non-Destroyers families" you know might be interested (especially if they were considering joining the team this summer), feel free to send them our way and we can chat with them about getting them signed up! That said, we'll only open up outside registration if we have spots available after summer swimmers register. If any of our 15 and older swimmers would be interested in being a coach this winter, let us know and we’d love to have them on board!
Finally, If there are any parents interested in helping Matt with running the program this winter (mostly for coordination with coaches and for ensuring an adult is on the deck at all times), let us know and we’d would be more than happy to chat with you about it!
Feel free to reach out to/track down the Reps if you have any questions and we’d be happy to chat about it!
- Deirdre, Mike, and Matt
