Holmes Run A Meet Debrief, Woodley B Meet Details, and A Few More Items
Hello Burke Station families…and happy start to a toasty week! As always, there’s a lot of info to cover, so please read through.
What…a…meet yesterday! It was great to get that first Division 13 win under our belts, but it was even better to see how incredibly well the kids swam and the amazing sportsmanship they all showed! Holmes Run put up a good fight and swam fast, but we were just too strong for them and we held them off to swim to a 223-196 win.
We had another record this week, with Joey Hanik going 21.98 in the 8&U Breaststroke, beating the 22.37 he swam in last week’s A Meet! We also had two more first-time A Meet swimmers: Lucas Metellus, swimming 8&U Free and *just* getting edged out for fourth place and Sloane Mitchell, who came in third place in the 8&U Girls Backstroke. Awesome job, Lucas and Sloane!
This was also the final meet for the Bridley family at Burke Station (at least for now!), as they hit the road after the meet to head to their new duty station in Kansas. All four kids swam in the meet and contributed to the team’s win, and we can’t imagine a better sendoff for them. Best of luck with the move Alexis, Ryan, Lila, Wes, Quinn, and Austin. We hope to see you all again in the BKS blue and yellow in a few years time!
Monday, June 23: B Meet - at Woodley
Our next B Meet of the season will be at Woodley Pool, located at 7421 Camp Alger Avenue in Falls Church.
- Parking
- Parking is available in the lot at the pool. Overflow parking is available in the streets near the pool.
- Please arrive at 5:00 pm so swimmers are ready to start warmups at 5:20 pm
- Team area
- We will be located on the far side of the pool, on the opposite side from the pavilion
- The meet will start at 6:00 pm
- Order of meet is Freestyle, Backstroke, Breaststroke, Butterfly, IM
- Please note that Woodley swims the IMs at the end.
- Menu: Hot Dogs, Hamburgers, Nachos, Etc.!
- Payments accepted: Cash, Apple Pay, and credit cards
- Spectators can sit among the team in our area or at the tables near the pavilion. Just be sure to bring chairs or a blanket if you plan to sit in our area.
- Goggles, towels, cooling towels, extra clothes (if needed)
- Water bottles and snacks
- Chairs - we are in a grassy area with little to no pool furniture
- Bug spray!!!! It’s VERY buggy in our section, so this is a must!
- Woodley inclement weather policy: All attendees will need to leave the deck until 30 minutes after the last rumble of thunder. We suggest shelter in cars.
- Swimmers can swim any two strokes of their choice, plus IM
- If a swimmer placed first, second, or third in Saturday’s meet, they may not swim that event at the B Meet.
- Please remember to wear a white top and dark (navy/black) bottoms
- Rain gear can be any color
- We have one more timer slot available
- No one is allowed on the basketball court
- The toddler playground and baby pool are also closed
Friday, June 27 - Tie Dye Pep Rally at BSSC
- Start Time: 6:00 pm
- We will be on the side of the building. If you are able to walk, rather than drive, to the Swim Club, we highly recommend doing so as we will need to block off some of the parking spaces to accommodate the event.
- We will provide the dying supplies (dye, rubber bands, gloves, bags)
- Please bring an item to dye: shirt, hat, headband, etc.
- We will have gallon-size Ziplock bags for the items after they have been dyed. If your item is larger, please bring an appropriate size bag.
- Junior Destroyers are invited to participate in this fun event!
Saturday, June 28 - A Meet at Brookfield
- We will be travelling to Brookfield for the first time
- 13615 Pennsboro Drive, Chantilly
- This is approximately a 30-minute drive
- More information to follow.
- Please be advised that the start time could move up to 8:00 am if the weather is forecast to be especially hot. We will alert you as soon as possible if this is the case.
- Please declare your swimmers’ availability by Wednesday at 10:00 am
Team Photos
- If you missed photos last week, Neil is offering a retake day at 7:20 on Tuesday morning. Please email the team reps if you intend to come. The number of responses may require that we start the photos earlier to allow practices to start on time.
- If you have yet to order your team photos, please do so by Tuesday at noon
