June 16 B Meet Recap and the Week Ahead

Wow…we’ve finished the first two B Meets before 9:00 pm, which has to be some kind of record. It definitely shows us that we’re seeing fewer DQs and tons of faster swims than normal, which shows just how hard the kids (and coaches!) have been working early in the season!

Another team record went down last night, with Joey Hanik doing it again, this time in the 8&U Backstroke, which he swam in 20.17 to beat the record he set last season at NVSL All-Stars. Congrats again, Joey!

We also had first meet swims for a couple of our 8&Us, so a special shout out to Elly Hackett and Macallan Raezler for making their BKS debuts! Congrats on your first of many Burke Station swims, Elly and Macallan!

The meet results are attached to this email.

Picture Day: Wednesday, June 18

Just another reminder that Picture Day is tomorrow, Wednesday, June 18! As noted in our previous email, please be at the pool by 8:00 am so we can get the kids in line and ready to take the group photo, followed by individual/sibling photos. Photo orders are online only at https://bksswimteam.square.site/s/shop.

There will be no practices for Destroyers, Transition, or Juniors tomorrow. All groups will be in the water on Thursday and Friday this week.

Juniors families…your Juniors are part of our team, so if you’d like them to be in the team picture, feel free to bring them! This is not mandatory, so please don’t feel obligated to do so.

Burke Station Spirit Wear

The Spirit Wear Shop is now fully open and will close at 3:00 pm on Friday. Unlike in the past, the store is not administered by us but rather our vendor. Make sure you get your orders in NOW! https://dmvtees.com/burkestationswim/shop/home

Tabs from Last Night’s B Meet

If you haven’t paid your concessions tab yet, you will be receiving an email from the Concessions email with your tab total. Please find one of the Team Reps or Eileen or Derrick King at practice to settle your tab. Credit card payment is preferred, but iIf you do bring cash, please have the exact amount as we will not have change available. Cash/Check payments should be in an envelope with your family’s name to ensure it gets noted appropriately.

Friday Breakfast and Ice Cream Social!

We’ve still got two spots open for providing breakfast items to the 11/12-year-old group on Friday. If you’d like to chip in, head to the BKS Breakfast SignUp Genius and sign up!

After spending some time at the pool on Friday, get ready for one of the most anticipated pep rallies of any Burke Station season…Ice Cream Social! The event starts at 7:00 pm. We will be offering ice cream for $2 per scoop, which also allows you to build your own sundae. Cash or credit card ($5 minimum) accepted. The event is open to all swim club members, so let your friends and neighbors know to stop by to watch the fun and grab a couple scoops of ice cream on what looks to be a perfect June evening at the pool!

Following the ice cream shop closing up, it will be time for one of the longest-standing and most favorite BKS traditions: the kids turning their coaches into human sundaes! This is an event you and your children won't want to miss.

Meet set up will be taking place at around 8:00 pm (depending on the number of members at the Swim Club)

A Meet v. Holmes Run: Saturday, June 21

Our first home A Meet of the season is this coming Saturday at BSSC; our opponent this week is Holmes Run Acres. Please declare your swimmers’ availability for this weekend’s meet by 10:00 am tomorrow so the coaches can set their lineup in the afternoon.

The theme for this meet is Circus Day, so come one, come all, and immerse yourselves in the magic, wonder, and excitement of an NVSL A Meet at Burke Station Swim Club! Come decked out in your favorite costumes from under the big top (clowns, circus performers, animal themes, and more)!

We’ll follow up later in the week with some more details on the meet.

Meet set up will be handled by the 13-14 swimmer families at approximately 8:00 pm (depending on how many members are still at the swim club). This should be pretty quick since most families will be there for the Ice Cream Social. 15-18 families will do the tear down after the meet.

Destroyers of the Week

A big congratulations to last week's Destroyers of the Week: Taylor Kasman and Barrett Walker! Being named Destroyer of the Week is a huge honor, and both Taylor and Barrett have earned their recognition!

National Anthem Performers

This is another plug for National Anthem performers, so if you have a swimmer who would like to showcase their talents to a couple hundred people before a meet, let us know!

With the season in full swing (stroke?), we’ll be providing the upcoming weekly schedule to keep everyone up to speed on what’s coming up..
