First Week of Practice Roundup, Reminders, and Upcoming Events
June 1st
Hello BKS families…
We hope you’re all having a great weekend! We wanted to send an email with a few reminders about the upcoming week and to start looking out to our first B Meet of the season in a little over a week.
- First Week of Practice Recap
- Even though the weather didn’t cooperate, we had a great first week of practice. We saw plenty of familiar faces and LOTS of new ones and the kids all put in some great work whether it was in the pool or in the community room. Coach Kelly’s “Wheel of Fun or Torture” was a hit with the swimmers and made fun out of normally arduous dryland exercises! Also, a big thank you to Coach Charlie, Coach Andrew, Coach Eric, and Coach Adrian for leading dryland for the 10&Us Friday afternoon when the first rumbles of thunder closed the swim club!
- We’ll continue with afternoon practices next week. It looks like we’ll finally see some warm weather, so practice should be MUCH more bearable by Tuesday
- Saturday, June 7: Time Trials at Burke Station
- This meet is for all Destroyers. Transition & Juniors Swimmers do not need to attend this one (sleep in!).
- You can declare now via SwimTopia
- Warmups are at 7:30 am
- Races will start at 8:00 am
- If you cannot attend, no worries. We will get times at the first B Meet (see more info below) and at practices, as needed.
- We are offering Volunteer Credits for Timing and Stroke & Turn
- We need two Timers per lane

- Volunteers
- This is another plug for NVSL officials training! The remaining dates are here on our website.
- Volunteer positions for all meets (excluding Divisionals and Relay Carnival) will open on 6/4/25.
- We’d love to see those volunteer slots fill up quickly! Besides, the sooner you sign up the easier it’ll be to get those cherished deck positions!
- Instructions for signing up are here
- For Destroyer families, the requirement is eight (8) slots. For Transition-only families, the requirement is four (4) slots. Junior Destroyers have no volunteer requirements.
- If you have questions, please email us or ask at practice
- Meet Declarations
- All meets will open for swimmer sign-up on 6/4
- Instructions for signing up for A Meets can be found here
- Make sure your swimmers are declared by 8:00 am the Wednesday prior to the meet. If not, Mike will find you…
- Coaches will set the lineup on Wednesdays after practice. Swimmers will be notified at Thursday morning practice if they will be swimming in that week’s A Meet.
- Instructions for B Meets can be found here
- B Meets are open to all Destroyers. Reminder that a swimmer cannot swim in a B Meet any event they placed in (1st, 2nd, or 3rd) at the preceding A Meet. Therefore, it may be best to wait until after the A Meet to choose your swimmer’s events.
- We will send out weekly reminders to sign up for both meets
- For Relay Carnival and IM Carnival, please declare if your swimmer is available on that date; this will help with long-term planning. More information on those meets will come out at a later time.
