Fox Mill Estates A Meet Roundup, Final B Meet of the Season, and Still Lots More Going On!

Happy Sunday evening, Burke Station!

This was another great (if very hot) weekend for BKS…and now we’re heading into the home stretch of the season!

It was another fantastic A Meet yesterday – this time against Fox Mill Estates, who were the other 3-0 team in the division coming into the weekend. We put in another colossal effort and proved far too much for the Foxes as we outscored them 276-144. Lots of amazing races and great individual efforts from our kids, and once again our depth showed as we won 9 of 12 relay races, which put us well out of reach of our visitors.

The final score makes us the highest total point-scoring team in NVSL through four weeks, which is a testament to  the amazing season we’ve had so far!

We once again saw a new team record, this time with Taran Heron breaking a record in the 11-12 Boys 50M Freestyle with a time of 29.47, which bests the record set by Coach Ryan back in 2016! Congratulations to Taran on getting his name on our record board once again!

We now go into the final dual meet week of the season with a 4-0 record and a chance to win the division this coming weekend when we visit Lake Braddock!

We have one of our busiest weeks of the season coming up, so keep reading to get up to speed on everything that’s happening.

B Meet Monday, July 8, at Camelot

We’re swimming away at Camelot in our final B Meet of the season…and we honestly can’t believe we’re already saying “final…meet”!

Camelot Community Club is located at 3604 Balin Court in Annandale, but the parking lot address is 3705 Camelot Drive, Annandale.

IMPORTANT: There is to be no parking on or pulling into the Balin Court cul-de-sac, so we need to park on any street not named “Balin” or in the Camelot parking lot whose address is noted above. The parking lot requires a long and steep walk up to the pool, so please consider street parking if you may have difficulty walking up the stairs, especially in this heat.

You can drop off your swimmers at the entrance to Balin Court, but a marshal will be waving you on as you drop them off.

Our warmups will begin at 5:25. Please arrive by 5:00 so we can get all of our swimmers set up and ready to go for the beginning of our warmups

Event Sign-up: Please declare swimmers by Monday, July 8 at 8:00 am. Swimmers can sign up for two events AND the IM. As a reminder, swimmers cannot swim in an event in which they placed first, second, or third in at the A Meet yesterday (see attached meet results if you are unsure of your places). Instructions on How to Sign Up.

Weather Details: Though the weather is looking clear (if hot), but as always, we will communicate weather delays via the SwimTopia app.

Volunteers: We need Timers. We will draft people if we don't have enough signed up, but we really don't want to do that. Without timers, there will be no meet!

IM Carnival – Thursday, July 11 at Burke Station

IM Carnival is an incredibly fun and incredibly fast meet that we host each year. This is not an NVSL-sanctioned meet, but it gives the kids another opportunity to swim the IM during the season and before Divisionals.

Please declare your swimmers for this meet by 8:00 am on Tuesday morning so we can get all the entries submitted. All entrants to this meet must have a legal IM time for the 2024 season! (8&Unders swimming Butterfly must have a legal 25M Butterfly time). If you don’t know whether your swimmer has a legal time, just check SwimTopia or ask one of the Reps during practice.

We will be posting volunteer positions tomorrow, so please be on the lookout. Given how quick this meet usually is, this is a great time to catch up on volunteer jobs! We will draft if necessary.

Pasta Party and Car Decorating Pep Rally – Friday, July 12 at BSSC

Come join us for an evening of carb-loading in preparation for Saturday’s A Meet! We will be hosting our annual Pasta Night Fundraiser in the pool house. This event is open to all! We will be offering pasta, salad, and meatballs from 6:00-8:00 pm.

Following the Pasta Night we will be decorating cars with car paint, etc. to show our BKS pride during our grueling trek to Lake Braddock on Saturday!

A Meet Declaration Reminder

Please declare your swimmers’ availability for next Saturday’s final A Meet of the season <sad face> at Lake Braddock by Tuesday morning at 8:00 am. There’s a LOT going on this week, so the coaches will be meeting after practice on Tuesday and they need declarations so they can set the lineup then.

One more thing…our 11-12 Boys will be swimming at Wednesday’s All Star Relay Carnival, so let’s pump them up by wishing them all the best of luck over the next few days!

As always, we’ll see you on the deck!

- Alexis, Deirdre, Mike, and Matt
