Hello BKS Families!

We might still be dealing with cold and maybe snow (at some point?) but, as is the way in Northern Virginia, it’ll be warm and sunny before we know it, so we’re ready to get the ball rolling (fins flapping?) for the 2024 summer swim season! There’s lots of info below, so please read carefully!

With sun and fun in mind, BKS registration will open on Friday, March 8. We wanted to give current and new families an opportunity to register nice and early, and this year we’re providing a little incentive to early registration - all swimmers registered by March 23 will receive a FREE SPECIAL EDITION BURKE STATION SWIM CAP (and believe us…you’re not going to want to miss out on this)!

We’re currently working on getting new accounts set up, so payment (online or via check) will be deferred until we have everything mapped on the website. We’ll be sure to let everyone know once that’s done!

The NVSL Seeding Meeting will take place on Sunday, March 3, at which point we’ll know which division we’re in and which pools we’ll be swimming against; we’ll be sure to update the website with all that information when we have it. As for the website, the initial practice and competitive meet schedule is available (the B Meet schedule will be confirmed at the beginning of March) and we’ll be updating with all meet details, along with information on pep rallies and other fun events, as we get nearer to the season.

Mark your calendars for the BKS Parents Meeting, which will take place on Saturday, May 18 at 5:00 pm at the Burke Station Swim Club.. At that meeting, we’ll take the opportunity to introduce the Reps and coaches, provide general information on the team and the league, and re-acquaint everyone with the insanity (and fun…but also insanity) that is the summer swim season! At that time, the coaches will take the kids for some fun icebreakers and to teach them all of our famous BKS songs. Also, Kona Ice will be making a community-sponsored appearance at that time, so feel free to let all your friends know to come out for some gourmet shaved ice!

Speaking of coaches, we’re excited to announce the coaching staff for the 2024 season! Coach Ryan Lincicum and Coach Kelly Hanik are returning to bring the energy of our last two seasons. Kelly and Ryan will be joined by two new (but very familiar) coaches: Coach Andrew O’Kane and Coach Caelan Heron! We’re over the moon to announce this year’s coaching staff (you can find their bios on the website here), and we know they can’t wait to see everyone at the Parents Meeting and to get back into the pool with all the kids in May.

The cadre of Team Reps has been working to get ready for another BKS season and are eagerly anticipating the NVSL Seeding Meeting! In 2024, Deirdre Daumit and Alexis Bridley will be pulling all the strings behind the scenes for their on-deck puppets, Mike Brenholt and Matt Gorski. We’re all anxious for March 3 and to get the planning for the season going in earnest!
