Burke Station Destroyers Summer 2022
The temperatures are warming, the pool cover is off, and the pool is filled…which of course means that Destroyers Summer 2022 is right around the corner! We are working hard to get everything set up for a smooth registration process but wanted to send out some preliminary information!
Team Rep
Sadly, the rumors are true- Bethany has stepped down as team rep. Have no fear, we are actively recruiting her for other positions in hopes you will see her smiling face on the pool deck this summer. Alexis Bridley is staying on for another season and she is joined by Matt Gorski as they tackle all things Team Rep! We are excited for a fun, fast, and “normal” summer!
Coaches
This summer we will have THREE amazing coaches leading the Destroyers. Coach Ryan Lincicum will return after his first season swimming for Old Dominion. Coach Cam Wells, who has coached the Jr. Destroyers for several years, will also become one of our head coaches after a year at UVA. This summer we will also add Coach Kelly Hanik to our team! Coach Kelly grew up swimming competitively in Pennsylvania and also swam for four-years at Saint Francis University in Loretto, PA.
2022 Season
After yesterday’s seeding meeting, we are happy to report that Burke Station Destroyers are staying in Division 16! We will see some familiar faces from last year- Commonwealth and Long Branch- and add some new teams- Broyhill Crest, Village West, and Ilda. We are still working to finalize the “B” Meet schedule but those teams remain the same as years past- Holmes Run, Lake Braddock, Parliament, Woodley, and Camelot.
Important Dates
We (mostly Jessica Lopez) are working hard to get our NEW site up and running with all the details. We will be switching from Team Unify to Swimtopia for this upcoming season- we hope to launch the site and team registration in early April! For now, mark the following dates:
Sunday, May 15th @ 5pm—Parent Meeting @BSSC Pool Room
This meeting is for old and new families! We will discuss the season, volunteer positions that need to be filled, etc. This is a great time for any new families that are interested in joining the team to come and see what we are all about!
Tuesday, May 31st—First Practice of the Season
Similar to past seasons, after school practices will follow:
13 & Older: 4-5pm
9-12: 5-6pm
8 & Under: 6- 6:45pm
Sunday, June 12th—Time Trials!
We hope everyone will join us for Time Trials on the morning of Sunday, June 12th. All swimmers will swim each event. These times will help coaches gauge the line-up for our first A meet at Broyhill Crest on Saturday, June 18th. If you are unable to attend Time Trials, please reach out to a Team Rep and let us know so we can get times for your swimmer(s) during practice.
Monday, June 13th—First Morning Practice of the Season
Morning Practice! Our schedule will again mirror that of past summers:
8 & Under: 8-9am
9-12: 9-10am
13 & Older: 10-11am
Monday, June 13th—First "B" Meet
Schedule TBD- we will have everything posted on the website when it's available.
Saturday, June 18th—First "A" Meet @ Broyhill Crest
Full schedule will be available on the website!
We have a lot of additional information such as Official's Clinic, Team Registration, Suit and Shirt Orders- please keep an eye out for future emails...they will be coming SOON!
